Summer Programs

Supporting local farmers and distributing fresh, seasonal produce to residents throughout Rowan County.

Summer Feed

Bread Riot volunteers distribute fresh, local produce at Rowan-Salisbury Schools summer meal sites and area senior sites.

Since 2018, Bread Riot has been distributing fresh produce purchased from local farmers at select Rowan-Salisbury Schools summer meal sites and other high-need sites in Rowan County. Each summer, Bread Riot volunteers pick up and distribute thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables at the sites!

Faith Harvest

Local church leaders pick up fresh produce to distribute to their congregations and neighborhoods.

Started in 2022, the Faith Harvest program provides area churches with fresh local produce. During the summer, 10 churches are given the opportunity to pick up $150 worth of produce two times at the Salisbury Farmer’s Market. They share these fruits and vegetables with people in their congregations and their neighborhoods.

Mobile Vegetable Markets

Bread Riot provides fresh produce in areas with a high need via donation-based mobile markets.

This program began in 2022 with one Mobile Vegetable Market and then expanded to two in 2024! On Saturdays during the summer, Bread Riot volunteers pick up produce purchased from farmers at the Salisbury Farmer’s Market and transport it to two outdoor locations in Salisbury. Tables are set up with boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs and more, and the items are offered to area residents with the message, “Take what you need. Give what you can.”
