The Bread Riot Co-op has been a volunteer effort since September of 2005. We have a few programs to offer at this time, summer of 2008: Every weekend, local eggs from Bame Farms off of Patterson Road, are dropped off at 512 Heilig Ave, Salisbury. They are availble from 10am on Saturday through Sunday evening, but they usually sell out quickly. They’re local and basically organic (no certification), and cost $3 per dozen. It’s an honor code system - take your eggs from the cooler on the front porch and leave exact change in the envelope.
We have produce buying clubs in the spring, summer and fall. Basically, you pay in advance for about 8 weeks of produce, and each week you receive a certain amount of produce. It’s sort of like Community Supported Agriculture. More details on this can be found on the website, or email

.
Occasionally, we coordinate the purchase of a local steer or pig, and distribute the meat amongst those interested.
We do some community advocacy. For example, on Earth Night Out in 2006, we showed Kilowatt Ours, a movie that encourages people to use compact fluorescent light bulbs and reduce their energy consumption in other ways.
Sometimes we have educational opportunities like tomato tastings, freezing and canning classes, etc. We don’t have any of these opportunities scheduled right now, but stay tuned, and if you are interested in coordinating a class, we welcome the ideas and assistance.
We have a book club that reads and discussed sustainability-related books. We generally meet the 1st or 2nd Tuesday of the month. Email

As a co-op, we hope to involve as many people as possible. It’s a co-operative effort. If you’d like to get more involved, and want to lead up an effort, you are perfectly welcome to. We have an online community forum to cultivate discussions, announce events, and share information on local farmers that support our interests. If you are interested in becoming a member go here.Contact information:
