1st Annual Bread Riot Farm Tour Saturday April 25, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Please join us for a day of fun on the farm. Bread Riot is teaming up with three local farmers to host an educational farm tour. This year's featured Farms:

Wild Turkey Farms: A century old family farm outside China Grove, we grow and sell beef, pork, poultry, eggs, honey, veggies and hay. Although we are not certified organic, we use no growth hormones on our farm and only a minimal amount pesticides.

Bame Farms: We are committed to production methods that minimize the need for pesticides and chemical inputs. We produce eggs, pork, beef and geraniums. If you buy your eggs from the Bread Riot front porch, they come from Bame Farms.

Correll Farms: For four generations and over one hundred years, we have been bringing product to market. While our early years focused on dairy production, we now produce beef cattle, dairy heifers, tomatoes for wholesale, many vegetables and some fruits to sell at local Farmers Markets, as well as at our farm.

Following the tours we will be gathering at Sloan Park for a complimentary local food dinner. Tickets are $10 per person or $25 per car load. Sign-up early, tickets are limited. Purchase tickets online at the Bread Riot website www.breadriot.org. After you sign-up, you will receive detailed information about the tour and dinner, directions to farm locations and a map.

We would like to thank everyone for the wonderful participation during our First Farm Tour. We sold 48 out of a possible 60 tickets, and fed almost 50 people to a local dinner at Sloan Park. Special thanks goes to our farmers. This simply would not have been possible without your hard work. Please keep checking our website at www.breadriot.org , pictures from the tour will be posted soon. We are also hoping to have an article in the Post about our first Farm Tour. Be sure to tell your friends how much fun you had and ask them to support our organization. Thanks again everyone. It was great fun and we look forward to next years.

Here is what a few people had to say about the farm tour:

  • Good job to all the that put to this together and all that attended. A success
  • Great Job everyone and thanks for working so hard to support our local farmers.
We appreciate everyone's efforts to making this a successful day.
  • It was great, our family enjoyed it very much, Thank you!!!
  • I am excited to be a part of the group and having a chance to buy things locally
and not full for all that bad stuff that is in what you buy
  • I was very pleased. I'll admit I was expecting the folks that attended to be a little
on the more "unique" side and was very impressed with all who attended and lead
    the event! Great job!
  • We look forward to hosting the group when it is our turn again. Thanks to all who
planned and worked with getting it all setup.
  • The food was excellent!
  • I love this organization and the information and programs that we received is extremely
    valuable for our family.
  • I'm looking forward to visiting other farms.
  • Great job everybody
